Ep. 2: Get YOUR HEAD in the GAME!
Between the recent decisions from the six Radical ReTHUGliQan members of the U.S. Supreme Court and the powerful evidence coming out in the public hearings on the January 6th insurrection, it’s very important that you and I stay focused on all of the things that we CAN do to create the Blue Wave this November.
We have a lot of work that CAN be done so that we can pass legislation to guarantee reproductive freedom, protect right to privacy, marital equality, and voter rights, pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, and expand the number of Justices on the U.S. Supreme Court to name a few.
The truth is that we can win these political battles we’re facing. And YOUR help makes the difference.
Find something that you can do and do it. Do it as much as you can.
As with all things in life that are of any consequence, the FIRST STEP is getting YOUR head in the game, as the saying goes.
We all know by now that the consequences of politics is hardly a game, but you’re smart. You get my drift.
There are only two places for your head to be. Either in the game, focused and ready to play what’s on the field, and expecting to win, or someplace where the sun fails to shine.
Now, I’m going to share a quote from a movie I really love – “The American President.” Michael Douglas starred in it as the president, and this is part of a speech he gave.
“We have serious problems to solve, and we need serious people to solve them. And whatever your particular problem is, I promise you, Bob Rumson is not the least bit interested in solving it. He is interested in two things and two things only: making you afraid of it and telling you who’s to blame for it.”
Man! That sounds just like the ReTHUGliQans.
But you know who else? It describes the cynics, doubters, and perpetual pessimists on OUR side of the fence. You know, the ones who have a million “what abouts and “what ifs” and I’m worried about.
Look, worrying is a waste of time. If you can do something about it, move on it, make it happen. If you can’t, then refocus your attention to what you CAN do.
You’ve got more time than money? Great, volunteer.
More extra cash than time? Great, donate.
A little or a lot of each? Do both.
The addiction to doomsday scenarios is depressing and exhausting for you, and trust me, it is for those of us around you. So do yourself a favor and STOP.
Let me tell ya. Not ONCE has any cynic, doubter, or perpetual pessimist ever made good things happen in the political arena for us. Not one. It’s important for us to inspire determination, perseverance, creativity – components that help us achieve our victories.
But cynics, doubters, perpetual pessimists never have realistic solutions, much less ones born of experience and expertise. They throw sand in the gears which slows down or stops the work you and I must do to win. Cynics, doubters, and perpetual pessimists torpedo our team, and the only beneficiaries are political opponents.
Unbeknownst to them, they are playing for the other team. Of course, that fails to be their intent, but it is the consequence of their behavior.
So, STOP listening to them.
And if you’re one of those folks? Oh, honey, just STOP. We need everyone to row the boat in the same direction so we can roe, roe, roe the vote. Get it? Row as in Roe v Wade. I saw that on Facebook and thought it was pretty good!
Let me share THREE words of encouragement: The Georgia Miracle!
We now have TWO U.S. Senators from Georgia both of whom are Democrats. A young man of the Jewish Faith and a Black preacher from the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Church.
The Georgia Miracle happened, because people did more than talk or complain. They prayed and moved their feet which means they did the work that needed to be done.
Calling voters, knocking on doors, registering voters, re-registering voters because in 2019, the ReTHUGliQan Secretary of State illegally threw off the voter rolls around 200,000 citizens who were legally registered to vote. Yes, that’s the same Georgia ReTHUGliQan Secretary of State who decided he had done enough to tilt the vote in the R favor – going to prison failed to be very appealing.
Remember I was living there, working as the communications director with the ACLU of Georgia. We did a LOT of work to protect our sacred right to vote.
In October 2020, the ACLU of Georgia released a report by The Palast Fund titled Georgia Voter Roll Purge Errors.
In its press release, the ACLU of Georgia stated that the Palast Fund report “concluded the State had likely removed in 2019 the voter registrations of nearly 200,000 Georgia citizens on the grounds that they had moved from the address on their voter registration application.
“However, none of these citizens had moved, according to Advanced Address List Hygiene.
“Unsurprisingly, the state’s removals will likely affect the most vulnerable: young voters, voters of lower income, and citizens of racial groups that have been denied their sacred right to vote in the past.”
In response, strong wonderful Black women leaders like Latosha Brown – co-founder of Black Voters Matter, Nse Ufot – CEO of New Georgia Project, and other fabulous leaders and organizations succeeded in re-registering to vote tens of thousands of those citizens in spite of the tremendous hardship – that deliberately induced hardship – that ReTHUGliQan secretary of state imposed on nearly 200,000 citizens living in Georgia.
And THAT is one of the secret ingredients that created The Georgia Miracle in the 2020 election – 2 Democratic U.S. Senators – neither of whom were traditional WASPs – and pushed Georgia into the win category for our beloved Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden, and vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
The Georgia Miracle: Focus. Grit. Elbow Grease.
As a people, we have what is known as the American CAN-DO Spirit. Yes, we can! Si, se puede.
We can win, and we’re making great strides across the nation. Your first assignment today is to decide to win and you are going to do your part to help create the Big Blue Wave this November.
That’s your first assignment.
Your second assignment is to start saying these things to yourself, to others, and on social media where appropriate.
1. We’re doing The Georgia Miracle all over this nation.
2. I’m proud to do my part in creating our BIG BLUE WAVE.
3. Ya damn right we’re electing at least 2 additional pro-choice Democrats to the U.S. Senate. We got this.
There you go. Those are your two assignments. The combo puts your head where it belongs – in the game, ready to play as hard as you can, and expecting to win.
That’s it for now. Thank you for reading/listening!
Now go out and make Hell Hath No Fury OUR political rallying cry that creates our BIG BLUE WAVE this November!
